The History of Southwest Insurance, LLC

The Early Years

Founded and headquartered in Southwest Mississippi, the roots of our agency can be traced back as far as 1895 when the Gill Insurance Agency (later renamed Magnolia Insurance Agency) was founded. In 1920, the Covington Insurance Agency was founded in Summit, MS, and later merged with the Bilbo-Darville Agency in April 1970. The name was changed to Southwest General Insurance Agency that same year.

The Growth Continues...

In May, 1970, Southwest General Insurance Agency purchased the Gay-Wardlaw Agency, which was founded in 1952. In May, 1971, The Magnolia Insurance Agency was purchased. All offices were consolidated to Summit in January of 1980.

The Recent Past

In February 2004, the Southwest Insurance book continued to grow through a merger with The Newton James Agency. It was after this merger that the name was changed to "Southwest Insurance, LLC."
